"Did you know that Heavenly Father knows you personally—by name? The
scriptures teach us that this is true. When Enos went into the woods to
pray, he recorded, 'There came a voice unto me, saying: Enos,
thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou shalt be blessed.' (Enos
1:5; emphasis added.) Moses not only prayed but also talked to God
face-to-face, and God said to Moses, 'I have a work for thee, Moses,
my son.' (Moses 1:6;
emphasis added.) The Lord knew Jacob's name and changed it to Israel to
more accurately reflect his mission on the earth. (See Bible
Dictionary, 'Israel,' 708.) Similarly, He changed the names of
Paul and Abraham and Sarah. In Doctrine and Covenants, section 25, Emma
Smith is given a blessing for her comfort and guidance in life. The Lord
begins this blessing by saying, 'Hearken unto the voice of the Lord your
God, while I speak unto you, Emma Smith, my daughter.' (D&C
25:1; emphasis added.)
"You may not have heard the Lord call you by name, but He knows each one
of you and He knows your name. Elder Neal A. Maxwell said: 'I testify to
you that God has known you individually ... for a long, long time
(see D&C
93:23). He has loved you for a long, long time. He not only knows
the names of all the stars (see Ps.
147:4; Isa.
40:26); He knows your names and all your heartaches and your
joys!' ("Remember
How Merciful the Lord Hath Been," Liahona and Ensign, May 2004,
p.46.)" - Elaine S. Dalton, "He
Knows You by Name," Ensign, (CR) May 2005

"To become worthy, we make choices that will enable us to return to our
Heavenly Father's presence. We do those things which will qualify us to
claim all the blessings that He has in store for us. This is the reason
we are here on the earth—'to see if [we] will do all things whatsoever
the Lord... shall command.' (Abraham
3:25.) It is through our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that we
can resist temptation. (See Alma
37:33; 3
Nephi 7:18.) Our faith will enable us to shun evil. It will be
repulsive to us because 'light cleaveth unto light' and 'virtue loveth
virtue.' (See D&C
88:40.)" - Elaine S. Dalton, "Look
toward Eternity!" Ensign, November 2006

"Your vision of your future will help you press forward. Take a few
minutes to envision where you want to be in one year or two or five.
Then take action to prepare yourselves. People don't just run a marathon
when they decide to do it. They must train daily, slowly building
stamina and endurance to run the 26.2-mile distance. So it is with life.
It is daily diligence with prayer and scripture study that will help you
reach your goals. Your daily decisions will influence generations." -

"As you read the scriptures, you
will come to know that the Savior is not only the light and life of the
world; He is our one bright hope. Through Him you can have the hope of
returning to live with your Father in Heaven. Through Him you can repent
and overcome the things that will keep you from being steadfast. Through
Him you can find the strength and courage to press forward even when the
winds of resistance blow." - Elaine

"I truly believe that one
virtuous young woman or young man, led by the Spirit, can change the
world, but in order to do so, we must return to virtue. We must engage
in strict training. As the marathon runner Juma Ikanga said after
winning the New York Marathon, 'The
will to win is nothing without the will to prepare.'
Now is the time to prepare by exercising more self-discipline. Now is
the time to become 'more
fit for the kingdom.' Now is the
time to set our course and focus on the finish. A return to virtue must
begin individually in our hearts and in our homes."

“You
too can influence the young men with whom you associate to ‘rise a
little higher [and] be a little better’ (Gordon B. Hinckley, The
Quest for Excellence, Ensign, Sept. 1999, 5; Liahona, Sept.
1999, 8). You can help young men prepare for and serve honorable
missions. You can help them remain morally clean so they can bear
their priesthood with honor. Your righteous influence in the life of a
young man can have an eternal effect in not only his life but the
lives of generations.” - Elaine S. Dalton,

So how do you
raise a girl? Love her mother. Lead your family to the temple, be
guardians of virtue, and magnify your priesthood. Fathers, you have been
entrusted with our Heavenly Father’s royal daughters. They are virtuous
and elect. It is my prayer that you will watch over them, strengthen
them, model virtuous behavior, and teach them to follow in the Savior’s
every footstep—for He lives! - Elaine
