We all believe in
the principles and ordinances of faith, repentance, baptism and the
laying on of hands for the reception of the Holy Ghost; we all feel
that they are essential to salvation, and that gives joy and
consolation unto us. But it is necessary that we continue onward,
that our works may be in harmony with our faith, and while these
outward ordinances are kept in remembrance, we go on unto
perfection, improving every day we live. Every blessing that is
promised unto the Latter-day Saints is predicated upon faithfulness
and endurance in the observance of the laws that God has given unto
us, being honorable in our lives, pure in our spirits, upholding and
sustaining the work of the Lord upon the earth. - Lewis
Anderson, "Conference Report," October 1910, Overflow Meeting, p.
