In this prophetic declaration by Peter (1 Peter 4:17) there is no ambiguity. “Obey the gospel of God” must be our ensign. There is no other real approach to the fulfillment of life’s highest purpose. It is satisfying to know that we need not wander through life aimlessly with insecurity, uncertainty; finding doubt fear, apprehension on every side. We have a certain definite plan given us. We need only understand, accept, and obey. We are then at once at peace and can make ourselves secure in the household of God. We know the gospel is “… the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth,…” as Paul so forcibly declared to the Romans. (See Rom. 1:16.) – Henry D.
