No one can begin to serve the Lord too early. Alma, in counseling his son Helaman, said this: “O, remember, my son, and learn wisdom in thy youth; yea, learn in thy youth to keep the commandments of God.” (Alma 37:35.) Hans Christian Andersen, a great story writer, said this: “Time is so fleeting that […]
The Creation, great as it is, is not an end in itself but a means to an end. We come to the earth for a brief period of time, endure our tests and trials, and prepare to move onward and upward to a glorious homecoming.52 Our thoughts and deeds while here will surely be more purposeful […]
Thus, love of God should be our aim. It is the first commandment—the foundation of faith. As we develop love of God and Christ, love of family and neighbor will naturally follow. Then will we eagerly emulate Jesus. He healed. He comforted. He taught, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children […]
One of the most dynamic challenges in the scriptures comes at the end of King Benjamin’s address to his people as he concludes his ministry and turns the reigns of government over to his son, Mosiah. Standing on the tower he built to address the people, he guides them through the fundamentals of the gospel […]
One message missed by so many in our time is the word of the Lord commanding us to “keep [ourselves] unspotted from the world.”16 We are told that many are called, “but few are chosen,” and the reason is that “their hearts are set so much upon the things of this world.”17 – James E. Faust, […]
Why does this generation seek a sign? queried Jesus with a deep sigh. (See Mark 8:11.) The more wicked and adulterous the people of a particular period, the more they demand signs as a condition of belief. Sensual individuals crave and live by sensations. Disciples, instead, walk and “overcome by faith” (D&C 76:53), accepting gratefully the evidence of […]
There is a golden thread that runs through every account of faith from the beginning of the world to the present time. Abraham, Noah, the Brother of Jared, the Prophet Joseph, and countless others were obedient to the will of God They had ears that could hear, eyes that could see, and hearts that could […]
About six hundred thousand hours of life, brethren, for him who lives three score and ten, minus the years of youth and of preparation, minus the hours of rest, minus many other things I wouldn’t be surprised if in a man’s effective career, his actual disposable time might not come down to something more like […]
God does not judge men as we do, nor look upon them in the same light that we do. He knows our imperfections-all the causes, the “whys and wherefores” are made manifest unto Him. He judges us by our acts and the intents of our hearts. His judgments will be true, just and righteous; ours […]
“And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.” (John 10:16.)… No one can answer intelligently that statement in John 10:16 without the knowledge that the Book of Mormon has brought to us. […]
