Time Heals

It was Thomas Mann who said, “Time cools, time clarifies; no mood can be maintained quite unaltered through the hours.” (The Magic Mountain.) Our moods do change, so we need to distinguish between a mood and a basic belief. The Book of Mormon doesn’t become untrue because we have had a bad day! When one is down “forty-love,” his basic self-esteem should not hinge on achieving a service break! Our moods so often stem from our being disappointed with ourselves or with others. So often the passage of time and/or nightfall tends to exaggerate a disagreement or a disappointment. We are usually much better at dealing with moods well before bedtime, just as inspiration often comes in the morning. – Neal A. Maxwell, “Wherefore, Ye Must Press Forward,” p.61
